When Andy Martin was asked to come up with an inspiring British object, he immediately thought of a brick.
Invented by the Romans and industrialised by the British it has seen everywhere, so much so that it has now become invisible. Individually a brick seems characterless but with others has the possibility to be poetic. The brick is a natural material but when processed resembles an innate functional unit. They are also a regional product and exposing different parts of Britian through its colour and texture. Andy has produced an object to express these thoughts by carving and cutting. To understand its humble manufacturing process and celebrate its graphic language.
